Paying Per Text?
October 22nd, 2008
A few months ago, service providers raised the rate for individual text messages from $.10 to $.20. At that rate, why not buy an unlimited plan? It seems like everyone text messages. My parents both text me on a daily basis…I even, on occasion, get a text from my 86-year-old grandmother.
I think my unlimited text plan is only $10 a month. I think the 500 message plan would be around $7 anyways. At this point with cell phones…isn’t it time to take the unlimited plunge?
How many of you aren’t on an unlimited texting plan?

Not having unlimited texting is a horrible idea. It’s just nice not to have to worry about going over the amount of text messages you’re given each month(even if 200-500 seems like a lot.)

I never talk on the phone anymore. I use less than 200 minutes a month for talking during peak times. Most of the time I only chat on the phone at night when it doesn’t count against minutes. Texting is just easier and more fun.

Unlimited here.. though I don’t think I come close to 500 to begin with.

This reminds me of when cell phones used to charge ridiculous amounts for very low minutes. Just because they could. Seriously? It bothers me that with my iPhone data plan from ATT I STILL have to pay an extra $5 or $10 a month for unlimited text messages… what? that’s not data? really? but yes, especially with an iPhone I have to have unlimited.

I remember when they used to charge an obscene amount for “roaming charges” and then they gave up and now there aren’t domestic roaming charges.
I would think “data” included texting but mine doesn’t either. They’ll change it eventually.
